I'm a fan (and you should be too) because, simply put, Hey Monday kicks butt.

Well, you may be asking me now, "What do you mean Hey Monday kicks butt?" Read the next paragraph for the answer.

HEY MONDAY defies every stereotype society has put on a punk/emo band. WHY? Because (a) they're female fronted. It seems all good bands (imho, of course) are female fronted. To front a punk band, you have to have a strong voice, and Cassadee Pope is no exception. Also, you have to have solid backing instruments. Cassadee's boys - Jersey on bass, Mike and Alex on guitar, Elliot on drums - deliver the music to the voice perfectly. (b) Their music is not I-hate-the-world-ish or overly angsty. Their debut, Hold On Tight, has its share of angst, but more often than not, the tunes are happy. (c) They're not a sound-alike to every other punk band out there. I love this style, but I can never tell the difference between Cartel and We the Kings and the White Tie Affair and Cobra Starship. Hey Monday is distinctive and I will ALWAYS know them when I hear them.

That, my friends, is why Hey Monday kicks butt.
